Spending Ban | A Blogger Collaboration

After finishing work on Saturday I decided to take a quick detour to Superdrug before swapping over some new winter boots I bought two days previously. I knew Bourjois had a new collection called "Happy Light", and as you all know by now I absolutely adore Bourjois. I'd been reading reviews by those privileged few bloggers that were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the products before they went on sale to the general public and I instantly fell in love, which wasn't any surprise. Instead of just buying the hydrating primer I ended up buying the whole collection, which consisted of the primer, concealer and foundation. £21 later and sitting on the bus home I felt this nag of guilt.. did I really need the whole collection? No. Then why did I just buy a brand new bottle of foundation when I have both the Healthy Mix Foundation and Serum at home and both are far from empty.. the culprit: Superdrug's offer of an introductory price.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Superdrug to pieces. Me and him are like best buddies, but I knew in that moment that I had a problem.. I needed to distance myself away. This is not going to be easy and it's killing me to say it, but me and Superdrug are on a break..

Thankfully I'm not alone and a few other bloggers have also realised they need to curb their spending addiction, but don't worry fellow bloggers not all is lost as my good friend Wendy has a solution to all our problems and thus project Spending Ban was born.

The goal is to last 111 days without buying any beauty products, obviously this excludes items you need such as shampoo, conditioner etc but in general this is supposed to help us understand the things we need instead of buying items we want.. being a Student at University this is exactly the kind of project I need as Photography is a very expensive course and there are a few items I'll need to purchase and lenses don't come cheap!

Every week I plan on writing up a post to update my readers and other bloggers taking part to let them know how I'm getting on, if you slip up and buy an item you're supposed to admit it and then continue on with the ban. If you want to hear more about this project and read the rules then here's a link to Wendy's post.

There will also be a secret santa going on as a treat for getting to a certain point in the ban. This is a great little project and I think it'll really help me gain some perspective on how much I would normally spend on products I either never really use or just buy because they're on offer.

I hope you've enjoyed this little post and wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

What do you think about spending bans, have you ever been on one?

  2. I look forward to supporting you on this journey :D I be posting fab money saving tips each week and keeping you updated with how I'm getting on :)

ps. You don't have to go back to day 1 if you slip. I think we would be here the whole of 2014 if we started again for another 111 days everytime we opened our purse XD

    Good Luck!
